Before we begin in our SharePoint tutorial on how to create a team site the modern way, you need to be sure first if you really meant to create a Team Site and not a Communication Site. You might want to read first their comparison to better help you about this before proceeding to our today’s featured Microsoft SharePoint tutorial.

Team Site versus Communication Site:
When you want to create a place where the members of a workgroup or project team can collaborate on project deliverables, plan an event, or exchange ideas, you want a Team Site. Here, all members are content authors where they jointly create and edit content. Think of team sites as an area where work gets done. Here your keywords are to connect, collaborate and create.
When you wish just to “broadcast” a message, tell a story, share content for viewing or showcase services or people, then you want a Communication Site. Here, the scenario will most often be a small number of content authors and a much larger number of content readers. Like your corporate intranet, even if you have collaborative parts of the intranet, the primary purpose of your intranet is to communicate a story such as corporate news or showcase services and information. Here your keywords are to showcase and share a story.
Now let us begin this SharePoint tutorial:
1. If you already have admin permission, then do one or the following:

Sign in to Office 365, in the high left corner of the page, select the app launcher icon and then select the SharePoint tile. If you don’t see the SharePoint tile, click the Sites tile or “All” if SharePoint is not visible. If you do not see the SharePoint tile or the Sites tile, your subscription might not include SharePoint Online then you need to contact your Office 365 administrator, but if you are the administrator for your Office 365 tenant,
see “Switch to a different Office 365 for business plan” to include SharePoint Online to your subscription.
For SharePoint Server 2019 user, just log into SharePoint.
2. At the highest portion of the SharePoint page, click + Create site and choose the “Team site option” then a site creation wizard will show on the right-hand face of the screen where you key in the info to form a team site.
3. Select the design you want to use for your site.
4. Input your new team site’s name. Unless you’re using SharePoint Server 2019, Office 365 group e-mail will be automatically generated with the same name as your team site. As you type, you will see whether or not the name you’ve chosen is available.
Note: If Office 365 Groups were disabled in SharePoint Online then the e-mail address field will not show.
5. If you might want to add some text that will show the aim or describe your site then put it in the “Site description box”.
6. Choose either Public or Private in the Privacy settings section.
7. Choose a site classification in the Site classification section.
The options listed will pertain to the sensitivity of data or to the life-cycle of data on your site.
8. For SharePoint Server 2019 user, click Finish and you’re done but if not, just continue in step 9.
9. Select a language for your site.
Caution: Once you decide on a default language for your site and create the site, you can’t change the language to something else later. You can, however, add alternate supported languages.
10. In SharePoint Online, add the names or email addresses of anyone else you want to manage the site in the “Add additional owners box” and in the “Add member’s box”, add the name or email address for everyone you want to be a member of your site and then click Finish.
